EFT FAQ
Your Most Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions on this simple self acupuncture technique, EFT FAQ - Your most frequently asked questions may have the answer you are looking for.

What is EFT?

This Extra Funky Therapy as I like to call it is an innovative self acupuncture technique that uses the fingertips instead of needles to gently tap on certain meridian points on the face and body to bring the body back into balance emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Is it safe?

It's not only safe, it's so simple even children can easily learn to use it. More importantly though, it works astoundingly well on almost anything you can imagine from eliminating:

  • negative emotions like anger, sadness and disappointment

  • physical issues such as not being able to sleep, body aches and pains or nausea

  • fears and phobias such as fear of flying, fear of heights or fear of public speaking

  • to those self limiting beliefs that show up and stop you when you're starting a new project or goal

Can it help children?

Absolutely. In fact, if you have small children one of the best things you can do when you tuck them in at night is to ask them how their day was, and as they're talking, simply tap gently through the points on their face and body.

It's very relaxing but don't be alarmed if an upset surfaces. That's what you want -- to get it up and out. Just keep tapping gently on the points as you listen. It's great if they're afraid of the dark too.

How long does the process take and how often should I tap?

Once you've done EFT a couple of times and know the process it only takes minutes. You brush your teeth and shower every day and emotional cleansing should be a part of that daily ritual too, especially if you want to be calmer, sleep better and feel happier.

How do I know what to say?

Listen to way you're saying to yourself and use that, e.g. "I can't think with this pounding headache" becomes "Even though I can't think with this pounding headache" and the reminder phrase for each point would be "pounding headache.

If you're really upset or angry, just start tapping through the points saying exactly how you feel until you feel calmer. Don't worry about doing it wrong, you can't. It will work even if you tap out of sequence or miss certain points.

Why does the setup focus on the negative?

You have to first acknowledge your problem rather than pretend it doesn't exist and accept it -- make peace with where you are -- before any lasting change can take place.

You can try just being positive but ask yourself where that has gotten you to this point. In a lot of cases people think there's "something wrong with them" because they're doing all the right things but aren't getting results.

So being positive most of the time just doesn't work. Your subconscious knows what you're saying isn't true -- they're the "yeah buts" or "tail enders".

It is very easy to erase those with EFT. Then you can put in positive affirmations that feel right.

What do I say if I'm not comfortable saying "I accept myself"?

Self acceptance is something everyone struggles with at some point, so if the standard EFT setup “Even though I have [this problem] I deeply and completely accept myself" is uncomfortable for you to say, try saying

  • "I want to accept myself" or
  • "I'm open to being able to accept myself" or
  • "I accept this conflict"

Or some other variation that feels right to you.

Do I have to believe in EFT for it to work?

No. It will work whether you believe in it or not. I was skeptical about this at first and probably every client I've worked with has felt the same way. It still had amazing results.

Will it help with a past event that is still painful?

Yes. When you have a specific event it's easier to work and get results quickly. You have a beginning and an end to that movie you've been replaying in your head. There will also be emotionally intense places within that movie.

You simply apply EFT to it -- give the movie a title first -- until you can play it in your mind and don't feel anything.

Why did I feel worse after doing EFT?

An issue is a bit like a puzzle and can be made up of many different pieces or "aspects" which can sometimes be a bit like stirring up the muck on the bottom of the pond.

Even though you might think it’s a negative, it is actually a positive because you have another "piece of the puzzle" to work with.

So get those emotions and feelings up and out with a few more rounds of EFT to bring closure to it once and for all.

Will the results last?

Yes BUT you could be triggered emotionally again later by another "related aspect" or piece that you didn't work on initially. It doesn't mean it didn't work. You just have to apply EFT to the new piece or aspect until that's gone too.

Is it a quick fix?

Yes and No. It's the quickest fix I've found hands down to make you feel better very quickly emotionally and physically, but you can't expect to apply EFT once and have all your problems vanish.

It's an ongoing daily process because life doesn't go in a straight line. You will always have a combination of good times and challenges. EFT makes it easy to deal with the challenges so you can feel good more often and perform at your best.

How does it help with sport or other performance?

Your emotions, feelings and beliefs which are largely dependent on past experience play a huge role when you're stepping out of your comfort zone to perform at any level.

When you can stop reacting emotionally and shift your beliefs which EFT allows you to do very easily, your world and your performance change for the better.
