It's not pleasant when you're struggling with low teen self esteem, but do you realise that unresolved past hurts and negative experiences from your childhood and teenage years may be greatly affecting your self esteem and personal performance today?
It sounds hard to believe I know, but have you ever experienced strong negative emotions and feelings thinking about a distant past event or person?
We all have specific negative events in our life, especially during childhood and in our teens, where we've felt rejected, hurt, humiliated and alone.
In fact, these past negative experiences during your early childhood and teenage years can have a dramatic adverse effect on your confidence and relationships and be a major cause of poor teen self esteem.
Even as an adult you can experience those same negative emotions and feelings just thinking about a certain person or event, despite the fact that many years may have passed.
You may have moved on logically, but your emotions and feelings surrounding the specific event or person involved can still be very raw.
But I have some good news for you if you're looking for self esteem help!
Clear Up Your Past and Increase Teen Self Esteem
EFT will deal with these specific events quickly, efficiently and relatively painlessly. When you can let go of the negative emotions and feelings surrounding a person or event, teen self esteem and self confidence will start to grow in leaps and bounds.
Below is a short video, The Lines That Divide Us, on the difficulties facing teenagers today and how words can hurt and write so powerfully on the slate of who you are. I'm sure you will relate to this whether you're pre-teen or 100 years of age.
I encourage you to watch it to the end, regardless of your age, and make some notes on your negative experiences as they come to mind.
You can then take what you've written down and apply EFT to it using the step-by-step guide. There are tips on how to do this below.
I'll be surprised if you manage to get through this video with dry eyes. I certainly didn't! And if you do feel the emotion start to well up inside, just start tapping through the EFT points as you watch it because you’re already tuned into the problem.

EFT Is A Great Tool In Building Positive Self Esteem
Here are a few steps to help you clear your past negative events with EFT so you can start building positive self esteem.
Take one of your past school hurts or teenage stress scene and write it down.
Now rate how intense it is for you on the 0-10 scale (where 0 is nothing and 10 is as intense or distressing as it can be) thinking about it now.
Alongside those emotions rate how intense each one is on the 0-10 scale.
Now do a scan of your body. What are you feeling physically? Are you aware of any pain or tension, nausea, lump in the throat etc? Write every physical symptom down and rate your level of distress or intensity on the 0-10 scale.
Now put this distressing negative event into a set-up statement and repeat it while you tap on the karate chop point.
For instance:
"Even though [who? -- teacher, friend, enemy] [did what? -- made fun of me/picked on me/said...] and I was [how did you feel? -- angry/hurt/embarrassed etc] I want to accept myself and my feelings."
Repeat the above 3 times while tapping on the karate chop point. Then tap through the EFT points repeating a reminder phrase at each point to keep you focused on the problem such as "teacher humiliation".
Do a couple of rounds of EFT and reassess your intensity or level of distress for everything you have written down and then do another round for the remainder of the problem.
Keep going until you're at a 0 or can't think about it any more.
Now that’s emotional freedom and a great way to start building positive teen self esteem and confidence!
