Teenage Stress Today
Teenage stress and depression is a huge problem today and so too is low teen self esteem. The teenage years are a difficult transition stage where you’re no longer a child but not quite an adult and the changes emotionally, physically and academically can be very challenging and stressful. It can be the best of times and the worst of times; a time when it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious and alone. Causes Of Teen Stress -
Hormones and adapting to body changes which can include weight gain, acne etc -
Poor body image and pressure to keep up with fashion trends -
Low teen self esteem, feeling like you don't fit in or measure up to others -
Test taking anxiety and academic pressure -
Moving or changing schools -
Making career choices -
Pressure to experiment with alcohol, sex or drugs -
Conflict with parents, siblings and friends -
Trauma or death of a family member or friend -
Financial problems -
Lack of sleep -
Taking on too much All the above causes, and I'm sure you can think of others, can create a lot of stress and tension and make it difficult to perform at your best.
Sometimes you may not even recognize you’re under stress or that your body is responding physically to stress, especially if you’re experiencing some or all of the above causes of teen stress on a daily basis. When that happens your body is in a constant state of “fight and flight” and that’s not good for you or your health. So how do you know if you are stressed?
