Teenage stress and depression is a huge problem today and so too is low teenage self esteem.

Teenage stress 01 The teenage years are a difficult transition stage where you are no longer a child but you're not quite an adult.

So the changes emotionally, physically and academically can be extremely challenging and stressful.

It can be the best of times and the worst of times; a time when it's easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious and alone.

Causes of Teenage Stress

There can be a number of things that contribute to teenage stress including:

  • hormones and body changes which can lead to things like emotional outbursts, weight gain and acne
  • poor body image
  • feeling like you don't fit in or measure up to others which can cause low teenage self esteem
  • test taking anxiety and academic stress
  • moving or changing schools
  • pressure to make career choices
  • conflict with parents, teachers, siblings and friends
  • pressure to experiment with alcohol, sex or drugs
  • trauma or the death of a family member or friend
  • financial pressure in keeping up with fashion trends
  • taking on too much and not being able to sleep
